Dental Implants

If you have a tooth or teeth missing and you want to improve the appearance of your smile, or perhaps be able to eat and function better, have you ever considered having an implant? There are a few options to restore a gap, such as dentures, bridges or implants.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is usually made of titanium and is a cylindrical screw that is placed into a carefully prepared socket in your jawbone. Over a period of months the bone becomes firmly attached or fused to the implant; this process is called osseointegration. The implant once fused with the bone can then provide the foundation to support a crown, bridge or denture.

Having a dental implant involves multiple visits to the practice. These will include appointments to discuss options and to plan your treatment; surgery to place the implants; appointments to restore the top of the implants and yet further appointments to maintain the implants and the restorations supported by them. They are certainly not a quick fix, but can be a fantastic solution to fill a gap or replace a denture.
